Have you ever worked on a project and didn't quite know where to start? After serious research, you discover a template that allows you to have a framework for your unique content. For example, this website works inside through the support of a model. Think about how it has contributed to the success of many. It allows users to have a better starting point and to accomplish their unique work. Imagine how painful it is to go through life without a model for marriage, money, or life's work. One of the greatest threats to a leader's success is a weak succession. It's sad to see excellence and quality service die because leaders did great work but failed to develop successors along the way.
Leaders have a hard time letting go of their work because it proves their worth and struggle with making room for the next generation to over. Poor planning can produce a fragmented or disintegrated leader, and this results in a broken model. Each new generation passes down organizational dysfunction, whether in the home, church, or business. Because no one took the time to present a healthy image of succession, leaders often question, "Where's my place, if I give it away?" What many fail to realize is that real success works through succession. It isn't easy to give what you never received. So how do we fix the succession problem? The natural inclination to look outside, but to improve the next generation; start with yourself. There's no quick fix for a broken you. I repeat, if you want to repair the future, then you must work on yourself. First, you have to answer the question: "Who am I?" You are an inside job, and at the core, you are a human "being."
Leaders avoid inside or "being" work because they can't fix the inner person with intellect alone, science, or natural strength. It's funny that we accept the miracle of birth. Everybody receives a spirit but attempt to do life without developing the most important for success and succession: improving our spiritual lives. Maturity or complete development is giving birth to someone who carries on your work. When you pass on a healthy inner image for others to model, you realize that you do not lose your place, but others carry on your best attributes with your spirit.
